Exchange Email Updates
Exchange, which is used for email and calendaring by faculty and staff, will undergo upgrades between November 3 and November 17. These upgrades will improve performance and change how malicious email attachments are filtered.
Customers using the Thunderbird mail client will need to make a setting change before November 17 to avoid receiving an error message after the upgrades are completed. The Outlook email client may prompt you to restart Outlook. All other mail clients are not expected to be affected by these changes.

Email Attachment Filter Changes
Email attachment filters will be adjusted. Currently, if an email with an attachment is sent from University of Illinois Exchange account to another University account, and the attachment is filtered for security reasons, the recipient still receives the message with a text file explaining why the attachment was removed.
Beginning on November 4, if email with an attachment is sent from one University of Illinois Exchange email account to another University account, and the attachment is filtered, the message will be bounced back to the sender with an explanation of why the attachment was rejected. The intended recipient of the email will not receive any communication.
Tuesday, November 17, 2015
Beginning November 18, customers using Outlook Webmail will notice a new login screen.
If you are using Thunderbird, you will need to adjust some settings to avoid getting an error message. If you use Thunderbird, the settings that you need to change can be found in this KnowledgeBase article. These settings must be changed before November 17 in order to avoid receiving the error message.
