Tech Services Graduates

The semester is almost over! Several of our student employees are getting ready to graduate and take on the world. Be sure to congratulate our talented team members on their accomplishments when you see them around campus.

Nick Alcazar

Nick's worked with Technology Services for the past 3 years.

What he's learned from the job: "Phone etiquette."

The best part of the job: "The people/the environment. The pizza parties."

After graduation: "A mechanical engineering job at Service Industries."

Carolina Bolano Carolina Bolano

Carolina's worked with Technology Services for the past 5 years.

What she's learned from the job: "I learned how to really prioritize in terms of when do you send a techician out to the field and when you don’t. I feel like my thinking process with talking to someone over the phone got faster over time."

The best part of the job: "The people, that’s for sure. We have a good group of people that we work with and we share a common environment, laid-back but still professional."

After graduation: "I work at a summer camp over the summer where I’ll be an art director, and after that hopefully I’ll get a teaching job."

Zach Doman

Zach's worked with Technology Services for the past 3.5 years.

What he's learned from the job: "I’ve been able to learn so many new things, work with so many different types of customers, and ultimately have this experience propel me into a full-time position within the IT field."

The best part of the job: "Working within Technology Services has been incredibly rewarding and it’s been rare throughout the years to experience any type of slowness with the job. From the hundreds of changes that have taken place in our help desk from when I began in 2012 to the thousands of phone calls and tickets I’ve probably taken, I feel fortunate to have been a member of this team and will miss the office when I graduate in a few weeks."

After graduation: "I’ll be heading back home to the suburbs and joining the IT team of a market maker named Optiver as a Systems Engineer in Chicago. Thanks again for a great few years."

Aaron Hindes

Aaron will be graduating and working as a Software Engineer in San Diego, San Francisco or Chicago.

His favorite part of the job: "My favorite Help Desk memory was probably breaking two chairs during my first week working as a consultant. Also I remember when Lorenzo started and everything help desk related became better in every way."

Chris King

Chris has worked with Technology Services for the past 3 years.

What he's learned from the job: "I would first like to start by saying thank you all for providing me with such a great work environment and an experience that I won’t forget. I started working at the Help Desk at the beginning of my sophomore year and I can honestly say that this was the most enjoyable work experience I have had. I learned so much about the university, other tech related things that I would not have known otherwise. I had the chance to learn the skills of customer service and how valuable extreme patience is on a 90 minute password reset call. I really appreciated that everyone was open-minded and loved to talk about a variety of things."

The best part of the job: "To all of my supervisors, tier 1, and tier 2, thank you for all of your help and understanding over the last three years. I know I have asked my fair share of annoying, sometimes complicated, sometimes simple questions but you all took it in stride. To all of my fellow consultants, thank you for being great work buddies and entertaining my conversations. I know I talk too much."

After graduation: "Next year, I plan on attending UIC for graduate school. I was recently accepted into their Masters in Public Administration Program. After that I plan on working with either a non-profit organization or the Chicago city government. I would eventually like to get my JD/MBA and build my own environmental consulting firm. Thank you all once again, it was a blessing to get to know all of you and work here for the last 3 years. Best wishes to everyone."

Harsh Patel

Harsh has worked with Technology Services for the past year.

What he's learned from the job: "My time at the help desk has been awesome because of the people I work with. I honestly don't think there is a better student job on campus."

The best part of the job: "There were some real personalities in the help desk. This always made coming to work fun. You were always able to get help with anything you didn't know. Lorenzo, Joe, Jimmy, and Terri were the best supervisors you could ask for."

After graduation: "Once I leave school I will be working for a trading firm in Chicago. Then I plan on moving to LA to pursue a filmmaking career."

Kyle Polke

Kyle has worked with Technology Services for the past 2.5 years.

What he's learned from the job: "Working at the Help Desk has provided me invaluable experience and a chance to grow my technical knowledge and customer service skills on a daily basis. As a transfer student, my roles as a consultant and student lead at the Help Desk have helped me understand the complexity of the University system and gain a deeper respect for everything that Technology Services does from an IT role to keep U of I functioning."

The best part of the job: "Seeing changes to the Help Desk and the organization as a whole has been exciting, and I'm happy to have had the opportunity to be a part of it."

After graduation: "I plan on moving back to the suburbs to start paying off my student loans. Professionally, I've accepted a position as a Recruiter for a PR Software company headquartered in Chicago. I'm looking forward to taking what I've learned at the Help Desk and applying it to attract, recruit, and train talent for a great company."

Maddie Rehayem

Maddle has worked with Technology Services for the past 3 years.

What she's learned from the job: "I learned about the classroom technology which I didn’t really know about. That’s pretty much the main thing. I learned how to edit things for an office environment. It was worthwhile to work here because I had never worked in an office environment before and I had to talk to people and communicate with people and those are skills that are pretty universally applicable."

The best part of the job: "I like the people I work with and I like that it’s a very understanding and compassionate environment."

After graduation: The sky's the limit!
