Wireless Issues in Residence Halls (RESOLVED)

UPDATE 09.01.2015: After working throughout the first week of classes with University Housing staff, the Technology Services networking team was able to make adjustments to the residence hall wireless networks that seem to have improved the performance and reliability of both the IllinoisNet and IllinoisNet_Devices wireless networks. If you have wireless issues in the residence halls, please contact the Help Desk by phone (217-244-7000) or email (consult@illinois.edu).

Wireless connectivity to the IllinoisNet network has been degraded in the University of Illinois residence halls. This has led to some students being unable to connect or being dropped from IllinoisNet wireless.

Some students are still able to connect and use IllinoisNet. Technology Services observed over 1 Gbps of traffic over the residence hall wireless networks today (August 25).

Technology Services and University Housing staff have been working on this issue since Friday afternoon. At this time, it remains unclear what is exactly causing the problem, or if it is even a single problem or a combination of issues.

At the present time, this issue appears to be contained to the IllinoisNet wireless network in the residence halls.

IllinoisNet access in other campus buildings does not appear to be affected by these issues.

The latest updates will be posted to the University’s Status Page.
