Why to use this service

Walkup computing provides an alternative connectivity option for locations that do have campus wireless service and for devices that cannot access the campus wireless network.  Walkup jacks provide a stable and secure connection for areas such as conference rooms, common areas and classrooms.

How to get this service

Walkup is available at specified locations to anyone with an Urbana NetID.

IT Professionals can request new Walkup locations or service by sending an email to net-trouble@illinois.edu.


The service requires the installation of a network jack in the location being served.  The requesting department is charged for the installation of the network jack.  No other charges are associated with the service.

How to use this service

Connection to Walkup enabled data jack and a web browser set to access a non-secure URL.

Quotas and usage restrictions

Quotas: Campus NetID and password or guest credentials are required. Some non-secure ports are blocked.

Scheduled maintenance hours

Posted maintenance windows are: 5:30am-7:30am M-F, 5:30am-10:00am Sat, and 5:30-noon Sunday.

Staffed support hours

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
