At some point, everyone has some kind of technology mishap, whether it’s issues with emails, passwords or Wi-Fi. When this happens on campus, one of the best places for Illinois students and staff to go is the Technology Services Help Desk. The Tech Services Help Desk can be contacted via the Technology Services website or in person at a physical location. For those who prefer going in person, Tech Services has made it much easier by opening a brand-new location in the Illini Union.
The newest Help Desk is located on the first floor of the Illini Union in room 187, which is right next to the Quad Shop on the southwest corner of the building. There is another location at the Digital Computer Lab in room 1211. The Tech Services help desk offers all the same help in person that they do online, including help with Canvas, Duo two factor authentication, Zoom and much more.
Jennifer Sturner, manager of Integrated User Services at Technology Services helps oversee the day-to-day operations at the help desk. She spoke more about the new Illini Union help desk location.
Why pick the Union for a Help Desk?
Jennifer: We wanted to be right where the students are! The Union is the heart of campus, making it a perfect spot to set up. Plus, grabbing a snack or coffee while getting tech support? Win-win!
How many people have come in since the help desk opened?
Jennifer: We’ve already helped hundreds of students, and we can’t wait to help even more! We’re getting busier and busier each day as more students find out about us. It’s exciting to see the word spread!
We operate entirely on walk-ins. Just drop by whenever you need a hand—no need to schedule ahead.
What is the most common tech issue you help with? Other common issues?
Jennifer: Password resets and 2FA issues are what we see the most, but we also help out with campus Wi-Fi, Email, Canvas and the Illinois app regularly.
What is one thing you would tell students who might be nervous about coming in?
Jennifer: Don’t worry! We’re here to help, no matter how big or small the issue is. Our goal is to make sure you leave with your tech problems solved and a smile on your face.
