Scott Genung is the Interim Chief Information Officer at the University of Illinois. He has nearly 30 years of higher education IT technical and leadership experience spanning three distinct institutions including the University of Chicago, University of Oregon, and Illinois State University. Scott’s background includes engineering, architecture, operations, leadership, consulting, and teaching through a variety of roles throughout his career. He believes strongly in collaborative relationships and intentional planning.
In the role of CIO, Scott oversees the engineering, operations, and customer experience functions for IT-based applications, infrastructure, and shared services for the University. The scope of these range from enterprise services such as unified communications and learning management, shared services such as end-user and desktop support, and foundational capabilities such as network, systems, data center, and cloud functions. Scott is also actively involved in supporting and operationalizing innovation brought to or fostered within the organization, driving organizational maturity, and optimizing the capabilities of Operations to delivery future state capabilities.
