The Illinois App is a great way for students to get the most out of their on-campus experience! We caught up with Isaac Galvan, a senior product owner at Tech Services, as he spoke at a Rokwire lecture series about the Illinois App’s most popular and new features.
The Illinois app is designed for students to stay updated on things happening around campus. The app allows students to connect their NetID in order to access a digital ID, a digital MTD pass for the bus, and their Illini Cash balance. Using the app, students can also discover different events on campus. They can view and register for concerts, sporting events, lectures, professional development events, and more! The app includes accurate and up-to-date information on campus dining hall options, including menus, hours, and nutrition information. For the student who loves sports, scores and ticket sales are even easier to access now through the app. Best of all, the Illinois App isn’t just for students. Parents, employees, visitors, and sports fans all have resources they can use in the Illinois App!
One new feature is what Isaac dubbed “Super Events.” These are longer, multi-part events, such as Welcome Week in the fall. Using the new Super Events feature, students can view these multi-part events and register for the individual events they’re interested in. The app also allows students to opt-in for notifications. If an event gets postponed, cancelled, or moved, students can be notified quickly and efficiently.
A second new feature is Groups. Students can now create their own groups directly in the Illinois App. Students can make groups for anything. A class group chat? Done. Need a place for all your RSO members? Done. Want to make new friends? There’s a group for that! In groups, students can post announcements, discussion boards, and shared events for that group.
A final new feature is great for new students, or for students who are finally on campus for the first time since COVID-19 moved us online. The Illinois App recently added a Student Guide section. The information comes from a physical guide that new-to-campus students would receive as a guide to campus resources. This online version makes this guide available anytime anywhere. Get all your questions answered on the go!
The Illinois App also allows anyone to find and show their building access status typically shown on the Safer Illinois App.
