Dena Strong is using her education, training, and her experiences with the University of Illinois’ SHIELD program to help upwards of 1,200 volunteers preserve Ukraine’s disappearing digital treasures.
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign leveraged cloud technology experts at Technology Services to develop a low-cost, automated and fully secure data pipeline to process and maintain COVID-19 testing data.

In July 2020, Chancellor Jones announced a $2 million annual commitment by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to prioritize research focused on systemic racial inequities and injustices that exist within our communities and higher education itself.
The Call to Action to Address Racism & Social Injustice Research Program recently announced 22 projects that have been awarded funding. One of these projects is led by Technology Services Deputy CIO for Innovation and Technology Strategy, Tracy Smith.
In an effort to heighten research capabilities and opportunity, Technology Services at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers three major cloud platforms for researchers to access a wide-range of resources to assist with computation, data collection and storage, website and app development, and more, in a collaborative, accessible, cost-effective, and highly-flexible environment.

The IT Accessibility Liaisons Program (ITAL) identifies, recruits, and trains people within campus units to serve as digital accessibility resources. Liaisons serve voluntarily and may hold technical or non-technical positions, which allows for broader exposure and diverse channels of communication.
When classes went fully remote due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Spring 2020, Chancellor Robert Jones knew a lot of work would be necessary to get students, faculty, and staff back to campus safely in the Fall. Technology Services at Illinois, the central IT organization for the university, has been instrumental in making that possible.
While the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak caused many conferences to reschedule or cancel entirely, one committee decided its community needed to meet to talk shop and connect amidst the upheaval of a public health crisis.
