Technology Services supports Canvas, a Learning Management System that instructors can use to deliver course content, including assignments, discussions, grades, etc.
Classroom TechnologyTechnology Services provides support and resources for non-department-owned classrooms, referred to as “general assignment classrooms”.
Your NetID and password are required for many services and websites at the University. When you claimed your NetID, you should have also set a password recovery option. The recovery option will allow you to reset your password at any time.
Your password will expire once per year. You can see this expiration date at the NetID Center.
Two-factor authentication secures our University accounts by confirming your login using something you know (a password), and something you have (like a phone). University faculty, staff, and graduate/professional students are required to use 2FA for many University services and websites.
The DUO Mobile App allows you to confirm your login with a press of a button, and provides a login code if your phone loses internet connectivity.
You should always try to connect to the IllinoisNet network using your NetID and password.
All new faculty, staff, and students automatically receive Exchange (Outlook Online) email accounts when completing the NetID claim process. Please note it can take up to two hours after claiming your NetID before you can log in to your email inbox.
All faculty, staff, and students have access to Microsoft Office 365 for free. You can access apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint in your browser or download them to your computer.
Other free and discounted software are available at our WebStore. Some software, including Adobe Creative Cloud, MATLAB, LabView, Mathematica, SAS, and ArcGIS are free for everyone. Additional free software may be available depending on your department/college.
UIUC AnyWare gives students and faculty access to over 100 software applications whether working on campus, remotely, or in class. Avoid downloading large files or installing software directly. Use software you may not be able to run on your personal device.
Canvas is the university-supported Learning Management System (LMS). Visit the links below for more information about resources to help build a course in Canvas.

The CITL website has an extensive body of resources to support teaching and learning in all modalities, including strategies for developing courses, teaching with technology, improving student engagement, and creating powerful media to use in your teaching. If you need a specific software title, you can request to have it installed on the classroom PC. Technology Services requires a 10-day notice and a licensed copy of the software or the URL for free software.
If you are hosting a special event in a classroom, technology support is available during normal business hours.
Mersive Solstice Wireless Presentation Devices
We recommended using a wired connection (HDMI or VGA) when streaming video to the projector.
You cannot cast audio from Android devices at this time. We are currently awaiting a fix from Google but do not have a timeframe for the resolution. Linux is not supported at this time.
Lecture Capture for On-Demand Recordings
This is the best option for high quality audio and video if you do NOT need remote students to participate synchronously.
- Recordings are automatically published to Illinois Media Space (Kaltura).
- No additional equipment is needed if your classroom is equipped for lecture capture.
- All projected content is recorded (PC, Document Camera, Laptop, BluRay, etc.).
Please note that not all general assignments are equipped for lecture capture. The list does not include any classrooms managed by individual departments.
If your classroom is equipped for lecture capture, you can schedule a recording at least two business days in advance. A semester of recurring events can be scheduled at one time.
Audio Bridge for Live Streaming
This is the best option for instructors who need remote students to participate synchronously.
- Stream AND Record with Zoom or Skype for Business.
- No additional equipment is needed if your classroom has an audio bridge.
The Undergraduate Library Media Commons has equipment available for instructors to check out for the semester. This includes USB microphones, USB cameras, and portable document cameras.
