Who is Technology Services?

One of the most important things that students-both new and returning-need to settle at the start of any semester are the devices and applications they need to succeed. Whether it’s completing the very first assignments, meeting up on Zoom or even signing up for classes in the first place, a student’s entire academic ecosystem depends on having access to a working device. This means that any hiccups, especially during those crucial first few weeks, can feel like a crisis. Luckily, at U of I we have Technology Services to help manage those crises and build solutions for the future.

Technology Services is a part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer and has several different departments that serve different roles on campus. From developing new software to maintaining cybersecurity to running the Help Desk, everywhere that technology is used on campus, Tech Services has a hand in keeping things running smoothly. If you want to learn more about what Tech Services does or get involved in learning opportunities and initiatives, visit the Technology Services website.

Tech Services Help Desk

Students will be most familiar with Tech Services through the Tech Services Help Desk, which is where they can go for help with most technological issues. They provide assistance for software such as Canvas, Zoom or campus Wi-Fi (among much more!) There are two physical help desk locations at the Digital Computer Lab Room 1211 and the Illini Union Room 187, or students can submit a digital Help Desk ticket.

Another major way that students will interact with Tech Services is through the WebStore. The WebStore is an online store where students and others affiliated with the University can download free or discounted software, with the option to also purchase software. This is the best place to download any applications needed for classes as it is designed to help students save money.
